Cannabis is the plant that Cannabidiol (CBD) is extracted from.  Cannabis is also known as a psychoactive drug used for medical or recreational purpose. The psychoactive component of the cannabis plant is known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the primary responsibility for creating the ‘high’ associated with recreational cannabis use. CBD, on the other hand, is one of the most critical cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. It also exists both in industrial hemp, which is a cultivar of cannabis. Here are some differences between CBD and THC.

The arrangement of  atoms in CBD vs THC

Most of the people don’t know that THC and CBD have a similar chemical makeup: 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. The two compounds are nearly the same. The difference between them is the arrangement of a single atom. Note an atom is known to be about a million times smaller than a human hair. CBD doesn’t have any psychoative effects like THC.  C

Despite their similar chemical structures THC and CBD work differently in the human body. THC binds with the cannabinoid1 (CB1) receptors in the brain. It produces a sense of euphoria. The high consumption of THC may be connected to long-term negative psychiatric effects while CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that binds very weakly with CB1 receptors. This means it does not produce any psychoactive effects even in large doses.

CBD vs. THC: Drug testing

Cannabinoids like THC and CBD can be detected on drug tests for several days or weeks after you have used them. Not every drug test will be able to detect CBD. There is special sensitive tests that can detect the presence of CBD in the body.  Most standard drug tests will look for chemicals related to THC. In addition, most hemp can produce both THC and CBD so a test could be positive for THC even if you’ve not used it. C

CBD may be better for localized physical condition whereby part of the body becomes swollen, hot, and often painful, mostly as a reaction to injury, infection or disease affecting the somatosensory nervous system. On the other hand, THC is good for skeletal muscle performance and cramp-related pain. However, a high consumption of THC can make the pain symptoms even worse.

Health benefits of THC vs CBD

Research studies indicate that THC may be useful in curbing the side effects of chemotherapy, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS and inflammation. CBD is also effective against many of the same conditions as well as chronic pain, cancer, diabetes, broken bones, mad cow disease, and anxiety to name a few.

Both CBD and THC have great medical benefits. However, if they are misused, it can lead to some dangerous effect like liver damage and brain damage. The lower health risks of CBD makes it a better for natural remedy than THC.
